VACATION DAY 13:
Date: 10-24-95, Tuesday, Trip Day 14.
Hotel: Hilton/None
Car: White Plymouth Acclaim/None
Weather: Warm, Sunny (Not Humid!)
My last day started off not well. I awoke at 7:30, to the second alarm from my watch. I must of awoke before, but I don't remember it; the Alarm Clock was shut off, and my watch was under the other bed. Oh well, at least I got up. After a quick shower, I proceeded to try and pack not only all the stuff I brought in my 2 bags and carry-on, but also everything I had accumulated in the last 12 days, into my 2 bags and Carry-on. Somehow I managed. Physics may be wrong, as I believe at lest 2 items are occupying the same space-time in my big duffel bag.
I then reconsidered my previous day's plan to visit Typhoon Lagoon, as I would then have wet clothed to pack up and carry back home with me. So, I begrudgingly packed my shorts and T-shirt in with my dirty clothes, again marveling at the compressibility of cloth, and the ability of a simple nylon zipper to withstand what seems like several hundred pounds of constant pressure.
Finally, after a last sweep of the room to discover anything I may have inadvertently left (like the charger for my Cell-Phone), I carried all my bags down to the car, proving I had not yet violated the prime rule of traveling (Never take more stuff than you can physically carry by yourself, least you be stranded somewhere and forced to abandon part of your luggage.) despite having added several pounds of paperwork(mostly from Blue Tree), photos (Vacation Rule #2 - Develop any film while still on vacation. If you are unable to do so, hand carry it on the plane, and DO NOT let the airport people X-ray it. Despite what they say, the x-ray unit will reduce the quality of the resulting prints, and the more times it gets nuked, the worse it can get. You can get damage ranging from an almost unnoticeable [unless you use the same camera to shoot the same scene on 2 rolls of film, developing 1 on site, and the other after returning home... I have done this test once, and speak from experience.] fuzzing on the image, to hideous purple stripes or splotches. This is why I also always buy my film on location, or hand-carry it there myself. [If you put it in a pocket, then transfer it to the little tray they have for keys and change at the airport, they may open up the can, but will generally not nuke your film.] ), and souvenirs gathered during my stay.
I then drove over to the main building, and checked out, after which I headed off to breakfast and then to EPCOT. At EPCOT, I considered Spaceship Earth, but instead opted to look at the fish in the Living Seas, since this was the only Future World pavilion Michelle and I had not visited, other than on the Back Stage tour, which I don't think really counted.
I spent about an hour there, then headed over to Canada, where I watched their film (Leaving only the Wonders of China unseen at EPCOT, but they currently show that one every day until ~2:00pm at Disneyland.), and then ate lunch in Canada at Le Celular (I think that is the name... French for The Cellar.), where I got delicious Cheddar Cheese Soup, a Beef Sandwich, and a Chocolate Cake, with a coke, for ~$8.00, after the Magic Kingdom Discount.
After I finished my food, I took a last look around, and headed for my car, then drove to the airport, by taking I-4 to Sand Lake Road, and taking that to the right, all the way back to the Airport. It may seem a strange way to go, but it is almost as fast as the Expressway, and it saved about $1.50 in tolls, as well as taking you past some of the lowest priced gas stations I have ever found in Orlando. Very useful if you are returning a rental car, and need to return it with a full tank.
I arrived at the airport and hopped on the plane, typing this up as I flew home (until the battery in my laptop died, about half way through).
That about does it for this vacation. I hope you enjoyed reading these reports, and I again thank you for ignoring any wrong words, or hideous syntax, since most of this was typed up daily after midnight, when I was quite tired from the prior day's adventures I was then describing.
